The Source Curriculum

Sexual Risk Avoidance Curriculum

The goal of Sexual Risk Avoidance education from the Source is to equip students and parents with medically accurate information and practical tools to help students delay sexual activity and build healthy relationships.

We also offer Parent and Teacher Workshops — empowering adults to confidently engage in risk avoidance conversations with their children.

Classroom Presentations

Our school curriculum is called “Choosing the Best” — a medically accurate, character development-focused, abstinence-based sexual health program. Topics include:
Goal setting
Healthy decision-making
Building healthy relationships
Avoiding STIs
Risks of sexting
Refusal skills
Benefits of delaying sexual activity

Program Delivery

High School

4.5 hours total, best delivered in three 1.5-hour sessions

Middle School

4.5 hours total, best delivered in six 45-minute sessions

Optional Add-On

Puberty and anatomy class (+45 minutes)

Age-appropriate curriculum is available for 6th, 7th, 8th, and high school students — aligned with Texas education standards.

Community Organization Presentations

We bring the same “Choosing the Best” curriculum to community organizations, adjusted to be age-appropriate for the youngest participant in the group.

Program Delivery Options:

• 45-minute sessions once a week for 6 weeks
• 1.5-hour sessions once a week for 3 weeks
• Daily sessions
• Single-day event

Parent and Teacher Workshops

Parents are teenagers’ #1 source for information about sex — but many parents underestimate their influence.

Overview:

• Inform parents about what The Source teaches
• Equip parents with the tools to start (and continue) conversations at home
• Empower parents to address complex sexual health topics confidently
